do i sand, use paint thinner or what, im just going to paint it white or somethingIt all depends what is on it now. If it has any type of finish on it, you'll need to use a furniture varnish stripper to remove it. Then sand to rough up the surface a bit and then paint it. If it's already painted, put a coat of primer paint on it and then paint it the color you want.you paint like you never paint before.umm well i learned that i had to paint it white before i painted it any other color. not sure why thoughFirst, sand down any rough edges.
Then, use the paint smoother, it evens out all the colors.
After that, you can paint it 2 colors.It's best to sand and paint outside (above 50 degrees) because of the fumes and dust, if you can't be sure to have good ventilation.
Put a drop cloth under the dresser, use 220 grit sandpaper and rough up the surface.
(don't use a higher grit or it will make it too smooth and the primer/paint won't stick)
Wipe down dresser so it is dust free.
Wear gloves and apply even layer of latex primer with a paint brush.
Let dry at least 8 hours. (over night is best)
Paint 2 coats with high-gloss latex paint.
Let dry 2 hours between coats.sand with 180 grit over all surfaces to allow for paint to stick. dust off. apply a latex primer with brush. sand with 180 again. .. If you are going to a dark color the primer could be tinted, but not necessary. Think about Gloss or Matt finish. Make sure surface is dust free.... and the environment is safe from wind that blows dust. Tempeture above 50 for most latex paint...A 3 in. brush is a good size. Good brushes are key to a better finish. Secound and possible Third coat and sand between coats with 180.. A clear coat Acrylic Polyurithane will protect and inhance the painted surface, but not fully necessary.
