What is the fitness level of footballers? ?

  • Very high. I was a Professional when i was younger but had to quit due to shin splints. I trained everyday except Sunday, and we played all through the year except for a month in Summer.

Basically a footballer has to be able to run at high intensity for 90 minutes, though they are also stopping and starting constantly which requires more stamina than running non-stop. They is a fitness test called the 'BLEEP TEST' where a group of people listen to a tape which beeps.

There are 2 cones about 30 metres away from eachother that the people run to and from. The idea is you should run from cone 1 to cone 2 and hit cone 2 before the tape bleeps. Of course the bleeps get shorter and shorter until when you get to about level 14 you are sprinting. This is renowned to be extremely hard and is often used as a fitness test in football. My best ever score was 15.8 which is very hard. I think David Beckham got a score of 19.

So basically footballers are very very fit.

  • Yeah just like the other guy was sayng it is very very high....The BLEEP TEST is probably the best way to compare your fitness to professional footballers as results of footballers bleep tests can be found throught the internet.

Supposedly, David Beckham, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard have all completed the bleep test right to the end i.e. finished the test without getting stopped so thats pretty high fitness!!

  • Using the Beep test as the example Kurt Gidley (Newcastle Knights fullback) regulary scores 17-18 during pre-season when his fitness levels have not yet peaked.
